EIGHTH DAY: Thursday, September 11th, 2014
I got up at ten minutes past seven.I took a quick shower and I had waffles and juice for breakfast. We left home at five minutes to eight, so we were late. It was S11, so we had to stay at Newark Academy because they were scared of letting us go to New York. I was wearing a green dress (which I’m not used to) because they have hard rules about clothes. First, we went to a big room where Celia read a fragment and where the Americans welcomed us. We spent about ten minutes there. Then, I attended Sam’s lessons. First, we had History, my favourite subject. The classrooms are so different. About ten people sitting around a round table. That made you feel comfortable. In that class they were talking about a book “The life of Pi”, it was interesting. Then, I had Biology. It was a surprise that they only had one-year subjects as geometry or algebra. In that year they learn everything about the subject. That’s weird. Maybe you don’t have enough level or it’s so easy for you. Later I had Spanish (which was funny) and a class with the seniors. We ate pizza and I went out for dinner. We went to a Korean restaurant. It has been my favourite since I arrived here!

CELIA SPEAKING AT NEWARK ACADEMY
Good morning,
My name is Celia and I'm one of the students from Spain on exchange at Newark Academy.
I'm very honoured to be here and speak on behalf of my school.
It's a pleasure for us to be here sharing experiences with students of our same age and we really appreciate the effort of the students, families and teachers to make things easier for us. You have been caring to us since we arrived.
We want to say a big thank to the Language Department for doing their best to make this project possible. This is not only an approach to a foreign language, but also to another culture, another way of looking at life and, take for sure that it will broaden our horizons and make us open-minded teenagers ready to build up a promising future.
Thank you so much for all this.
Celia Martínez
